Tuesday, May 5, 2015; 6:00 pm
Bobs Barbeque
Butner/Creedmoor NC

The May 5, 2015 meeting of the Lt. John T. Bullock Camp will be held in the private dining room at Bobs Barbeque in Creedmoor commencing at 5:30 p.m. for a dinner followed by a program. The speaker will be Mr. Michael C. Hardy who will be giving his program on the Capitals of the Confederacy. Looking forward to seeing you there.

The Capitals of the Confederacy

Every nation, no matter how brief its lifespan, has a capital. The Confederate States of America, over the course of four years, boasted no fewer than five capital cities, from the heady early days of the new country to the dismal last hours of a transient government. While some of these sites are commemorated with impressive monuments and museums, others offer scant evidence of their moment in the history of the War Between the States. Join award-winning historian Michael C. Hardy as he recounts the history of the places that became capitals of the Confederacy: Montgomery, Richmond, Danville, Greensboro, and Charlotte. Each played a role in the story of the Confederate government, a role that became woven into the history of that place and its people.

Michael C. Hardy has been interested in military history for over thirty years. A graduate of the University of Alabama, Michael has penned twenty books, and his articles have appeared in America's Civil War, Civil War Times, Gettysburg Magazine, and the Tar Heel Junior Historian. Michael's works have won numerous awards, and, in 2010, he was named the North Carolina Historian of the Year by the NC Society of Historians. In 2013, he became a Roads Scholar for the NC Humanities Council. Michael became a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans in 1994 and has served as historian for the North Carolina Division, Sons of Confederate Veterans since 2014. Michael lives in western North Carolina with his wife Elizabeth and their children, Nathaniel and Isabella.

The meetings of the camp are open and guests are cordially invited to join with the camp members on Tuesday, May 5th at Bobs Barbeque in Creedmoor at 5:30, in their meeting room.

All Camp #2205 meetings are open to the public and guests are invited to attend.
